Trust is Key in Film
For movies to be successful in today’s age, a lot of it has to do with the previous work of the actor, director, etc., and whether or not the audience truly engaged with it or not. Throughout my time in the industry, I’ve seen it happen plenty of times. Where a studio, director, or actor was doing very well, then after a string of decent-to-bad projects, their audience and following suddenly began to turn on them
This of course made it harder to market new and upcoming films being released from these studios, actors, or directors. This is why building trust with the audience and trying to maintain a good image is very important in being successful.
Examples of Poor Trust
When talking about poor trust in the entertainment industry, my mind always goes to this one actor almost instantaneously.
Jared Leto.
Jared Leto was a pretty great and highly-celebrated and recognized actor when he was younger. One of my personal favorites that he had a small role in was American Psycho and Fight Club.
As of lately, Jared Leto has had a lot of stinkers. From playing Joker in the Suicide Squad (not to be confused with James Gunn’s Suicide Squad), to starring in Morbius, and most recently the new installation in the Tron franchise. Nowadays, people, myself included, tend to stay away from projects that have Jared Leto in them.
I think it’s safe to say Jared Leto needs to win back the trust of his fans and the general public.
